Lets take a look at some of the pros and cons of gas fireplaces:

Pros
Gas fireplaces are easy to control and operate. Many gas fireplaces are started with the push of a button or remote. Many come with automatic timers that will shut your fireplace off after a certain amount of time.

Ease of Installation

Most gas fireplaces are simple inserts that you put into your existing fireplaced. Most gas fireplaces can be installed in any room in your home since they do not require a chimney. You also retain more heat. Up to 70% of heat from a fireplace can be lost right up the chimney.

Gas fireplaces are also cleaner. No need to clean out the ashes or drag dirty firewood in from outside.

Cons

Be careful with unvented gas fireplaces. Most if not all should come with oxygen depletion sensors which controls the gas and has an auto shut off in case carbon monoxide levels get too high. It may be wise to buy an additional cabon monoxide detector for your home just in case.

Gas fireplaces can be a great addition to your home if you consider the pros and cons and decide if this type of fireplace will work in your home.
